I’m being induced tomorrow morning so I probably won’t be on much - especially because my mom is leaving on Sunday so I’m not going to have any help with the baby like I was planning. (thanks mom)
Anyways I’m pretty sure that my goats have a mild skin infection - probably because their feet haven’t been done in a while and their pen is the wettest out of all the animals. Bacteria in their feet have probably spread to their skin when they itched at their necks. I’m treating them with blu-kote. It’s the only thing I could find. Tractor Supply didn’t have any antibiotic cream and I don’t know who the large animal vet in the area is.
We have decided to have Toony butchered for Christmas (well prior to Christmas, we plan on having a ham from her for Christmas). We will probably call in the next few weeks to schedule to have her butchered (the local guy never have more than a couple week waiting list). Her leg just isn’t getting any better even with the weight she has lost and she continues to fight with Niles. I’m still on the lookout for another sow, but it will probably have to wait until spring. There is just way too much going on right now with the baby and house renovations.
I believe I’ve won the flea war in my house. I bought some Frontline and treated the cats and dogs with it yesterday, but I haven’t seen a flea since last week’s flea baths. My one outside dog is still itching though. I’m hoping her demodex hasn’t come back (she had it when she was younger and it can be triggered by stress), because she is loosing fur and it’s getting cold. Jeff hasn’t even started on her indoor pen yet. I just put the meds on her yesterday for the fleas, so hopefully she is still just scratching at flea bites. If she doesn’t start to improve within the week I’m going to take her to the vets to get a skin scraping done.
Speaking of house renovations, we have made zero progress on the baby’s room and bathroom. Our realtor friend who was going to come down to help is holding off until October now and will be coming down with my father. She was planning on coming down the week after my baby shower but decided not to because my mom stayed - she can’t stand my mom. My dad’s doctor told him no long rides until October 15th so she figures she will just wait until then and give my dad a ride down when she comes. My dad can’t go back to work until November anyways so it gets him out of the house and away from my sister for a bit.
Jeff is working today on splitting wood and getting one of the two wood stoves we have installed. We have a propane furnace in the house, but because of the lack of insulation we can’t afford to run it all the time. It’s getting cold out and the heater was running constantly last night. We estimate that we will need about 30 facecord to make it through winter. We only have 6 right now and only a portion of that is split and stacked. It’s a lot of work, but at least we don’t have to pay for it. We have a friend that is letting us take it off his land - the trees have been down for years Jeff just has to go cut, haul, and split it.
Another random thing that has popped up in the past few days, Jeff wants me to get a pistol permit. The father of his friend gives the class, but I don’t know when it is. He wants one so he can carry a pistol while hunting and I’m guessing that’s why he wants me to get one to. Although I’m not that fond of guns and was planning on only going bow hunting next year (not going to be able to go this year for obvious reasons).
That’s what’s going on with the house, farm, and life in general. Wish me luck for tomorrow. I’m going to go sit outside in the autumn air and enjoy my last day as a childless person.
