A really good article by Andrew about why vegetarianism isn’t going to solve any of the agricultural problems that the globe is currently facing, and why he thinks we should abolish all farming and restore wild food.

A couple of my favorite quotes:

the vision I’d like to see realized is zero farming of anything. I see your critique of feedlot beef, pig shaped cages, and robot chicken farms, and I’m raising you with a critique of soy, corn, wheat, rice, et cetera. Farming of animals is an inefficient use of resources precicely because it relies on the farming of vegetarian staples such as corn and soy.

Perspective: Every farmed vegetable, tortilla, slice of bread, chunk of tofu, and other plant-based food you’ve ever eaten, required the destruction and displacement of an ecosystem to get to your face.

I don’t know if I could live with zero farming at all, but I definitely agree that we need to start winding down the factory farming of animals and huge land tract farming of items like corn and soy.  CSAs and buying locally are a great help to that, as long as we can protect them from being raided by the FDA.

Reblogging because it’s an interesting idea even if I don’t think it’s feasible in the modern world.
