Stupid/Smart Pig
My pigs kept getting out of their pen so my husband had to stay downstate to fix it this weekend instead of coming up here. Turns out the box for the electric fence wasn’t working, but then he fixed it and they STILL got out! Our boar is fine, but our sow keeps breaking out and the boar follows her. My husband says if this keeps up she’s going to be sausage soon. *rolls-eyes* But he...

WTF Was That?!
I have like a fricken Chupacabra in my backyard or something. Never heard anything like it. Creepy as hell. Going to go to bed to have nightmares now.

Everyday is a Challenge
Everyday is a challenge, interpreting social queues from people so I can decide the best way to respond. Thinking of what I’m going to say before I say it so I don’t inadvertently insult someone. Looking people in the eye even though it makes me uneasy, while making sure I don’t seem like I’m staring. Trying to do my work or house hold choirs while a million thoughts fly through my head at the...

Why capitalism will never work:
janedoe225: theaetherealmeadow: blackenedbutterfly: There’s only so much money in the world. If everyone has the same amount of money, then that’s approaching socialism or communism. That’s like…the antithesis of capitalism. Also, a capitalist system cannot work when everyone has roughly the same amount of money. Then nobody’s making a profit. With that in mind, there must then be some...

FDA Admits Chicken Meat Contains Cancer-Causing... →
funwithplantingplans: After years of sweeping the issue under the rug and hoping no one would notice, the FDA has now finally admitted that chicken meat sold in the USA contains arsenic, a cancer-causing toxic chemical that’s fatal in high doses. But the real story is where this arsenic comes from: It’s added to the chicken feed on purpose! Even worse, the FDA says its own research shows that...

People Are Stupid
I received a package in the mail yesterday from our town office with all the complaint letters they got from people that didn’t want us starting our little hobby farm. I’m going through them now and will be scanning and uploading all of them to my website so others can see how stupid people in my community are. I will be removing all of the names and such though, I can’t afford...

My husband's reasoning is flawed, but effective.
Jeff: I found some Shetlands for sale!
Me: Cool, but I only want ewes we don't need another ram.
Jeff: But Keera needs a boyfriend.
Me: Um, yah okay I guess.
(Craigslist is evil, it enables my husband's impulse livestock buying habit)

Horny Ram
My aunt called yesterday. Duncan my Shetland ram got in with the girls. Luckily Shetlands normally only breed in the fall so there is little risk that he knocked up Keera (his aunt) but I have a hair sheep that can go into estrus anytime of year… I have a feeling in about 5 months I’m going to have another Painted Shetland Lamb. That’s just in time for the holidays, maybe I will...

white-coat: A large reason why bacteria are becoming quickly resistant to our antibiotics is because of our agricultural practices. Due to lack of oversight and the protection of the Ag lobbyists, ranchers pump livestock full of antibiotics so they’ll grow faster in our massive industrial food complexes. The consequences? “One of the most common antibiotic-resistant pathogens is MRSA, which now...

Organic Pest Control?
Okay it’s kind of stupid that I’m worrying about this now when I don’t even have a garden this year, but how do you control pests organically? Last year all of my cabbage was ruined by bugs, what organic methods can be used to prevent insects from destroying my vegetable gardens in the future?

Can't wait to move!
Husband and most of the animals are in Western NY while I’m stuck up in the north east corner of the state. I can’t wait until our house sells and I can move down there with them! Found the perfect farm in North East, PA!
