From Reddit: Why Do Men Keep Putting Me in the...
mildlyamused: You know how it is, right, ladies? You know a guy for a while. You hang out with him. You do fun things with him—play video games, watch movies, go hiking, go to concerts. You invite him to your parties. You listen to his problems. You do all this because you think he wants to be your friend. But then, then comes the fateful moment where you find out that all this time, he’s only...

It’s so muggy and hot outside today. I don’t want to do anything. I need to clean up the house, though, before Emily the Mennonite gets here to watch Tanner.  There is a free vermicomposting class at a local library we are attending with the In-Laws. I hope it’s air conditioned.

Clicker training on the farm.
I finally found my clicker today. I’ve been looking for it since we moved. So I got started on training the pigs to back up. It’s the only “trick” I train them to do. I mean if I wanted to I could train them to do all sorts of tricks, but it’s not really needed.  Sandy and Reba got it right off. I need to work with Bianca one on one. The two older pigs kept shoving...

Busy, Busy, Busy
I will try to post at least once a day, but the next few weeks are going to be insane. College is technically starting this week (although I’ve already started doing some work with my mentor).  My mother is also flying down this week, She is then riding back up with me the week after and I’ll be in upstate for 5 day. Then the week after that our realtor friend is probably coming...

I have to pick my mom up from the airport in Erie at 10pm on Wednesday night. There was a flight that came in around 5pm, but she waited until the last minute to buy her ticket and the prices went up.  At least the traffic shouldn’t be bad.

It was my turn to feed the animals tonight. When I was out by the pigs I noticed an old rusted box spring by the patch I’m going to plant my three sister’s garden.  I asked my husband where is came from and why it was back there. Turns out he pulled it from the scrap pile behind our neighbors house with the four-wheeler and used it to level out the garden.  Not sure if upcycling or...

bambuita replied to your post: As soon as Tanner goes down for her nap I need to… how did it go?! Horrible, but hilarious - so pretty much just how I expected it to. I may need to buy a small hand held milker before I leave for upstate.

As soon as Tanner goes down for her nap I need to go outside and show my husband how to milk a goat. He’s going to be taking care of them while I’m gone, but he’s never milked a goat before. This should be entertaining.

monkeyfrog: naimhe: I just told my sister she should squat down and take a pee in the chicken yard and then her head exploded. I’m sure the chickens are eating her brains by now. BECAUSE THAT LIQUID WOULD BRING THE DUCKS RUNNING AND OMG LET’S NOT EVEN GO THERE. That is not an image I ever wanted in my head.

The Biggest Obama Scandals Are Proven and Ignored
sheldon-targaryen: The Atlantic Conor Friedersdorf May 17 2013, 7:30 AM ET Prompted by Peggy Noonan’s claim in The Wall Street Journal that “we are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate,” Andrew Sullivan steps forward to defend Pres. Obama’s honor. “Can she actually believe this?,” he asks incredulously. “Has this president broken the law, lied under oath, or authorized...

Screw exercise.
My SIL has been talking about her workouts on facebook, because she talks about everything and anything on her facebook. Yesterday she was cheering herself because she lost 5lbs! Awesome for her, but I rather roll in pig shit than do lunges and squats. I would be happier for her is she actually seemed to enjoy the exercise, but she treats it more like a chore she has to do everyday.  After I had...

Guineas
We went to my husband’s aunt’s house after he got out of work and picked up the two guinea fowl she was getting rid of.  Got home and they made a run for it. Hopefully they come back.  Pro-tip: Always make sure your guinea encloser is secure (i.e. the fencing isn’t big enough for them to walk right through) before releasing your birds into it.

Odd combs
The 20 chicks I hatched out from the Mennonites up the road are supposed to be Barred Rock/Buff Orpington crosses. The odd thing about them, though, is some of the chicks have a rose comb, which neither Barred Rocks or Buff Orpingtons have. Now long, long ago there was a line of Barred Rocks breed with a rose comb, but there haven’t been any in years. So I’m not sure if this is...

5/14/13 - Kicking out chicks and stuffy noses
(I’m doing a new thing where I write a post at the end of each day just recapping what’s been going on. Hopefully this will get me to talk more about what’s going on around here farm wise while also helping my writing.) Before I went to bed last night I felt a cold coming on. I woke up this morning with a stuffed nose, which thankfully went away with the help of some Claritin D....

The AH HA moment.
I’m reading Ideas into Words: Mastering the Craft of Science Writing by Ms. Elise Hancock for college. When I come upon this passage in the first chapter. Science writers, however, also need to play with language, and they have a curiosity too big and too restless to stick to one field. In fact, until they find journalism, these people tend to look “undirected,” “unfocused,” or even...

So is turns out that Merida, the rebellious redhead star of Disney’s Pixar film “Brave,” is true princess material after all, and Disney is coronating her as its 11th official princess on Saturday at Walt Disney World to prove it. But wait, there’s a catch. Turns out that Merida’s only joining the royal lineup after a corporate makeover that’s rendered her skinnier, sexier, and more glamorous...
